If we are fully surrendered to Him, there should be evidence of it, and\u00a0<strong>one of the most obvious signs is the presence of the fruit of the Spirit.<\/strong>\u00a0Last month, we talked about the fruit of\u00a0<a style=\"color: #ab0101;\" title=\"A Fruitful Marriage\u2013 Patience\" href=\"http:\/\/abiblicalmarriage.com\/a-fruitful-marriage-patience\/\"><em>PATIENCE<\/em>\u00a0<\/a>being evident in our marriages. This month we\u2019re looking at\u00a0<em>KINDNESS<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><em><strong>Kindness is more than being polite, or nice\u2013 it\u2019s going out of your way to grant favor, help, or bless someone. The Bible has a lot to say about kindness.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"color: #000000;\"><p><a class=\"lbsBibleRef\" style=\"color: #ab0101;\" href=\"http:\/\/biblia.com\/bible\/esv\/Romans%2011.22\" target=\"_blank\" data-reference=\"Romans 11.22\" data-version=\"esv\" data-purpose=\"bible-reference\">Romans 11:22<\/a>\u2013 we are called to\u00a0<em>continue in His kindness.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote style=\"color: #000000;\"><p><a class=\"lbsBibleRef\" style=\"color: #ab0101;\" href=\"http:\/\/biblia.com\/bible\/esv\/Titus%203.4-5\" target=\"_blank\" data-reference=\"Titus 3.4-5\" data-version=\"esv\" data-purpose=\"bible-reference\">Titus 3:4-5<\/a>\u00a0<em>But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, He saved us\u2026<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote style=\"color: #000000;\"><p><a class=\"lbsBibleRef\" style=\"color: #ab0101;\" href=\"http:\/\/biblia.com\/bible\/esv\/Colossians%203.12\" target=\"_blank\" data-reference=\"Colossians 3.12\" data-version=\"esv\" data-purpose=\"bible-reference\">Colossians 3:12<\/a>\u00a0<em>Therefore, as God\u2019s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.\u00a0<\/em>(Sounds a bit like the Fruits of the Spirit!)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">I like the idea of being \u201ctenderhearted\u201d in the New Living Translation:\u00a0<a class=\"lbsBibleRef\" style=\"color: #ab0101;\" href=\"http:\/\/biblia.com\/bible\/esv\/Ephesians%204.32\" target=\"_blank\" data-reference=\"Ephesians 4.32\" data-version=\"esv\" data-purpose=\"bible-reference\">Ephesians 4:32<\/a>\u00a0<em>Be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">And ladies,\u00a0<a class=\"lbsBibleRef\" style=\"color: #ab0101;\" href=\"http:\/\/biblia.com\/bible\/esv\/Titus%202.5\" target=\"_blank\" data-reference=\"Titus 2.5\" data-version=\"esv\" data-purpose=\"bible-reference\">Titus 2:5<\/a>\u00a0calls us to kindness right before submission to our husbands, and we are told to act this way so we won\u2019t give God a bad name!.\u00a0<em>\u2026be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"color: #ab0101;\">Showing Kindness to Your Spouse<\/h3>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">We all know what kindness is. How do we show it to our spouses? I think showing kindness might be like speaking their love language, different for each person. You can always ASK what\u2019s a good way, but sometimes spouses (okay, WIVES)\u00a0feel like if she has to tell you, it doesn\u2019t count! Here are some practical ideas. Try them and take note of the response! (Thanks to my\u00a0Facebook friends sharing how their spouses show kindness to them.)<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"color: #ab0101;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">From the male perspective\u2013<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<li>[My wife] is a fantastic cook, and I really appreciate\u00a0<strong>coming home to a great dinner!<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<li>[My wife]\u00a0is very\u00a0<strong>appreciative<\/strong>\u00a0of me; I love when I come home from work and\u00a0<strong>she\u2019s excited to see me<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>runs to the door to greet me<\/strong>.\u00a0 Also, the little things she does for me are very kind (the small thoughtful things like<strong>\u00a0buying something I would like<\/strong>\u00a0while she\u2019s grocery shopping, even if it\u2019s something she wouldn\u2019t usually buy or want to buy).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 style=\"color: #ab0101;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">And from the girls\u2013<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<li>My husband is such a kind person \u2013 he shows me constant kindness<strong>\u00a0being a servant<\/strong>in our home and outside of it!\u00a0 Specifically, in the home\u00a0<strong>he gets me<\/strong>\u00a0whatever I need or want, and will\u00a0<strong>ask me<\/strong>\u00a0if he can do anything for me.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<li>The other night we were having a fight (heavy disagreement discussion \u2013 short phrase \u2018fight\u2019) of sorts.\u00a0 We just couldn\u2019t see eye to eye.\u00a0 We had to end it so we could go to sleep\u2026 The next morning I had to play piano at church and go early.\u00a0\u00a0He got up \u2013 even though things weren\u2019t fully resolved \u2013\u00a0<strong>made me coffee and helped me get out the door<\/strong>.\u00a0 He could have stayed mad at me (since I *was* being rather disagreeable).\u00a0 That is not only kind, it is noble.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<li>My husband shows kindness to me by\u00a0<strong>being patient<\/strong>\u00a0with my shortcomings,<strong>extremely helpful<\/strong>\u00a0with house\/baby when he knows I am tired\/sick\/or stressed, and<strong>always thanking me<\/strong>\u00a0for what I do. What a great guy!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<li>My husband\u00a0<strong>makes my favorite breakfast<\/strong>\u00a0on Saturdays and\u00a0<strong>brings it to me in bed<\/strong>, he\u00a0<strong>cleans the kitchen<\/strong>\u00a0when I cook, he\u00a0<strong>helps with the household chores<\/strong>when my schedule gets busy, he washes and\u00a0<strong>maintains my car<\/strong>, he\u00a0<strong>grocery shops<\/strong>when I cannot without complaining, and he\u00a0<strong>prays for me<\/strong>!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<li><strong>Picks up the kids<\/strong>\u00a0from school and makes sure\u00a0<strong>homework<\/strong>\u00a0is done and\u00a0<strong>fixes dinner on the nights I work<\/strong>\u00a0so I can sleep.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<li>My spouse passed away nearly 5 years ago but he showed kindness by<strong>\u00a0making sure my vehicle had gas, good wipers<\/strong>, etc. He also was willing to\u00a0<strong>go out for meals<\/strong>when I was tired or felt bad.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<li>He brings me little gifts that make my life better, because<strong>\u00a0he pays attention<\/strong>. That is the greatest kindness, in my opinion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">(And from Auntie Em) My husband is very mechanically minded and handy, unlike me! He is always\u00a0<strong>doing things that would be difficult for me<\/strong>, if I could do them at all, like hanging pictures. He\u00a0<strong>indulges my hobbies<\/strong>\u00a0like gardening by mowing and bagging mulch, even at houses other than ours, so we\u2019ll have a huge stockpile. He built a serious trellis with treated lumber and cattle panel. He buys me jewelry. He\u00a0<strong>takes me to my favorite Mexican restaurant<\/strong>\u00a0even though he doesn\u2019t like\u00a0Mexican food\u00a0that much.\u00a0Oftentimes he will\u00a0<strong>ask\u00a0what he can do<\/strong>\u00a0for me or what I need from him.\u00a0 He\u00a0<strong>hung a bright neon string<\/strong>\u00a0from the garage ceiling so I\u2019ll know how far to pull the car in, and\u00a0<strong>put up party lights<\/strong>\u00a0around our porch,\u00a0AND set them up on a timer so they come on automatically.\u00a0In addition to making our coffee,\u00a0 he\u00a0<strong>gets out my\u00a0cup<\/strong>\u00a0and all the\u00a0accouterments\u00a0that I use every day. He attends my choir\u2019s concerts and<strong>photographs and videos<\/strong>\u00a0them. When one of us is away overnight he often\u00a0<strong>leaves a card<\/strong>\u00a0or my favorite candy under my pillow or in my suitcase. (Hot Tamales!)<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><em><strong>Showing intentional kindness\u00a0to our spouses is a good way to build up the love tank to overflowing.
